Beetlejuice - The Musical

Beetlejuice - The Musical at Tivoli Theatre - Chattanooga

Most people would see a haunted house and make a quick exit. Lydia Deetz has other ideas. In Beetlejuice, her plans get tangled up with a newly deceased couple and a demon who can turn a bad decision into a much bigger one. The stage musical comes to the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga on March 13.

Seeing the story live gives you time to watch Lydia deal with the people who think they know what’s best for her. A line that sounds like a brush-off can tell you quite a bit about how she sees the room. Her point of view gives all the supernatural comedy a reason to matter after the joke lands.

If you know the Tim Burton movie, take someone who never understood why you wanted to watch it again. The musical gives them a way into Lydia’s story through the songs, and you get a chance to see where the same characters pull your attention onstage. You can enjoy an old favorite together without needing the same thing from it.

There’s something satisfying about making plans for a story that gets to be a little strange. Pick the person who’ll argue about which character had the worst idea and give yourselves something to talk about on the way out.
