The short answer

The example below shows the end-stage seating layout supplied for Justin Willman. It identifies sections, row labels, and some seat-number ranges. Check the map for your exact performance to confirm the seats you can buy.

Start with the right venue and performance

Look for Tivoli Theatre, 709 Broad Street, Chattanooga on your event page. Walker Theatre and Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium use their own seating maps. Two tickets can both say “Orchestra” and put you in very different rooms.

The restored Tivoli welcomed audiences back for concerts in October 2026. If you find an older diagram or a photo from a past production, use it for orientation and check your actual seat against the map for your performance. A photograph can help you get a feel for the room, but it can’t tell you how a particular production sets up its stage.

How to read the section, row, and seat number

Start with the section. Find the stage on the map, then locate the exact section printed on the ticket. If several sections have similar names, zoom in until you can tell which block you’re looking at and how far it sits to one side.

Check the row next. If individual rows are visible, see where yours sits within that section. Its position on the map helps you judge distance from the stage, proximity to an aisle, and how far you may have to walk once you enter the section.

Then check the seat number. Some theaters number seats by side, so two numbers that are two apart may be neighbors. If you’re buying for two, look for two adjacent dots in the same row or confirmation from the seller. If a resale listing only shows the section and row, check the seller’s seating-together policy before checkout.

Where should you sit for the show you’re seeing?

For a musical with a big ensemble, start by comparing seats near the center that give you some distance from the stage. That’s a useful starting point if you want to see movement across the set. If facial expressions or a solo performer’s hands matter more, compare seats closer to the stage and check how sharply they angle in from the side.

An aisle seat can be worth prioritizing if you’d rather avoid squeezing past people during entry or intermission. Confirm that it borders an aisle on the map. The last seat number in a listing doesn’t necessarily tell you where the aisle is.

If you’re choosing between a cheaper side seat and a more expensive center seat, check for limited view or obstructed view notes. Ask yourself what you’d most miss if one edge of the stage were harder to see. That trade-off may matter more for dance than for a show built around a single performer at center stage.

How do you confirm accessible seating?

The restoration added a front-of-house elevator and accessible seating platforms. If you need a step-free route, wheelchair space, or a companion seat, ask the venue about the specific performance and section. Confirm which entrance to use, how to reach the seat from there, and whether your companion can sit beside you.

If stairs are the main concern, ask how many steps are between the section entrance and your row. An elevator can get you to a level, while the path from that level to your seat may still matter. The box office can help you narrow the search before you compare listings.

What should you check before buying?

Match the show, date, time, and venue to the performance you plan to attend. Check the time carefully if there’s a matinee and an evening show. Then find the section and row on the performance map and confirm your seat numbers where available.

Once you’ve checked adjacent seats, accessibility, and view restrictions, compare the total price including fees for the same number of seats. If you’re still deciding what to see, browse upcoming Chattanooga theatre shows and open the event you want to attend.
