Dustin Nickerson

Dustin Nickerson at The Comedy Catch

You might expect a stand-up show to open with wild stories or take aim at big, outrageous targets. Walking into The Comedy Catch in Chattanooga, you already know you’re in for a set that feels close to home, only this time you’re allowed to laugh about it in public.

Dustin Nickerson is out to prove that the daily grind is funnier than it gets credit for. He’s a champion of the ‘very average person’. the kind who leaves six browser tabs open to remember the milk, or bargains with toddlers for something resembling bedtime. His observational stand-up doesn’t need to reach for punchlines; the comedy is built right into having family, obligations, and a never-ending shopping list.

Watching Nickerson work a room tangibly beats scrolling past sound bites in silence. You get the shared ripple of laughs when someone catches the same joke as you, or the moment everyone recognizes a bit a second before he delivers it. Take the opportunity to nudge a friend when the bit on ‘kid logic’ strikes a nerve, or bring someone who needs reassurance that yes, everyone else really does lose the remote seconds after sitting down.
