Derrick Stroup

Derrick Stroup at Robert Kirk Walker Theatre

You haven’t really met a Southerner until you’ve heard Derrick Stroup barrel through a story about Waffle House at a speed that would make your GPS worried. This is comedy with a quick tongue, a sly wink, and the kind of punchlines that sneak up and sideswipe you just as you’re catching your breath. Derrick Stroup comes to Walker Theatre in Chattanooga on March 6, 2027.

Derrick’s Alabama-bred point of view feels especially at home in Chattanooga. he knows how the small stuff goes here, from local breakfast runs to the tricks everyone’s uncle pulls at the drive-thru. When you hear someone nail a joke about your own corner of the South, it lands differently than anything you’ll find online. There’s a sense that this comedy is meant for you, and your town was part of the setup all along.

Comedy moves a little quicker when you can hear the room laugh, catch someone’s spit-take two rows up, and finally see which face Derrick actually makes when he tags a joke. It’s more than just funny lines; it’s the rhythm, the crowd, and the surprise when the next joke gets you first.

Save your weeknight TV reruns for later: get real laughter in the same air as the punchline. Get your tickets for Derrick Stroup at the Walker Theatre in Chattanooga and bring someone who loves comedy that moves as fast as the stories.
