Ben Folds Five

Ben Folds Five at Tivoli Theatre - Chattanooga

Ben Folds Five put a piano where plenty of ’90s bands would have put another guitar. In a room with the trio, you can hear how much of the momentum comes from the keys and how much comes from the bass and drums pushing against them. Follow the piano’s rhythm for a few bars and see where it takes you. Ben Folds Five comes to Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga on Tuesday, April 13, 2027, at 8:00 p.m.

There’s also room to go if you missed them the first time around. The sound makes sense quickly once you hear the keys working against the rhythm section. Give it a few songs and see if you still expect the piano to sit politely behind the singer. That’s part of what made this trio worth hearing in the first place.

The return tour marks the thirtieth anniversary of the band’s debut. If you first heard those records with someone you rarely see now, this is a good reason to get back in touch. You can come for the memory and still spend most of the night paying attention to how the three players fit together.
