Black Stone Cherry

Black Stone Cherry at The Barrelhouse Ballroom

A heavy riff hits differently when you can feel the bass underneath it. With Black Stone Cherry, the blues in the playing gives all that volume a shape. Listen for the spot where a guitar phrase bends away from the beat, then notice how the rest of the band makes room for it. Black Stone Cherry comes to The Barrelhouse Ballroom in Chattanooga on Sunday, November 29, 2026, at 8:00 p.m.

The four members have spent years writing and recording together. That’s worth hearing in its own right. Listen to the drummer for a while instead of following the guitar. A band with that much time together can make a hard change sound as easy as somebody turning a corner they know well. If you know the band through its heavier tracks, give the soul in the sound a chance to sneak up on you.

This is a good one to share with the friend who always turns up the guitar solo. You can listen for the hooks and let them listen for the players. Compare notes on the way out. You may have spent the same song paying attention to entirely different things.
