J Roddy Walston and The Automatic Band

J Roddy Walston and The Automatic Band at Songbirds - TN

Start with the difference between Heavy Bells and Boys Can Never Tell. One gives you a sense of how hard J. Roddy Walston can push a song. The other gives you a reason to listen more closely when he eases up. That’s a satisfying range to hear in person. J. Roddy Walston comes to Songbirds in Chattanooga on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.

There’s value in hearing that contrast at the pace of a show. On a playlist you can move to whatever matches your mood. In the room, you get to find out how the louder material changes what you hear when the music pulls back, and how a quieter song changes your appetite for the next one. Songbirds gives you a place to follow both sides of that sound in one Saturday evening.

Bring somebody who likes a rock show but still wants to catch what the singer is saying. You can pay attention to the way Walston moves between force and restraint without needing a favorite record going in. If one of you does have a favorite, trade suggestions before you get there.
